How many times have you been to a restaurant where almost many accidents happen because of a kid running around without being warned by his or her oblivious parents? In the restaurants, a lot of things are happening all at once. You and your family are not the only customers there. There are many other hungry people too, who want their food hot and fast. In such moments of urgency, the servers, waiters and manager run around like mad people to get their work done. Their first priority is to attend to the customers.
In such a case, if you let your kids run wild, they will bring the place down. There will be slippery ice on the floor, people walking around, and your kid might easily get into a mishap that may cause several injuries. Plus, it will put work on hold. You will disturb the routine of work in the restaurant. They may accidentally break plates or glasses that may cause further harm. In such cases, it works to stick to a few rules:
Kids should never be allowed to sit in one place for a long time. They are generally more energetic than adults, and will favor being involved in something more than just sitting around bored. As an adult, you can take your kids outside the restaurant while waiting for your orders so that you all can stretch your legs.
It is a better idea to keep your kid involved in something that will keep him or her quiet. Bring crayons or a toy so that your kid can enjoy too.
Teach your kids to listen without making a lot of ruckus. When the waiter brings in the menu, let them pay attention. If they interrupt, gently warn them not to do so.
If they feel like asking the waiters any questions, let them go ahead, but only after the waiter has finished reciting the specials.
If they want to have something else, ask them to use polite words like "May I please have...". This shows that they are highly courteous, and will reflect on your good parenting.
Teach your kids to thank the server once he brings in the food.
If your kid behaves rudely, make him apologize to the waiter.
Teach your kids to use napkins properly. Have them place their napkins on their laps, and not wipe their mouths on their sleeves or cloths.
Your child should use utensils like knife and spoons when he is physically capable. Or else he might injure himself.
Always make sure that they eat with their mouth closed, and not play jokes by spraying the stray bits around.
While eating toast, break it into small pieces first and then slather each of them with butter. It is not good to have your kids butter up the entire bread and then eat the big piece altogether.
Teach your kids to drink only after swallowing their food, or else they may choke.
Always include the children in your discussion. Talk about something funny to keep them happy.
Do not let your kids run around for safety's sake.
If your kid is too small or is too difficult to handle, it is better that you think twice before bringing him to the restaurant. There are other people too who like to dine in some quiet and peace, and having your baby scream, shout and cry will only disturb them all.
